An analysis of the articles published on the work of documentation departments in Spanish television companies (1984-2014)
Objective: This paper analyzes the articles published in Spain on the work of documentation departments in television companies in order to provide an overview of this professional field and consider the subjects it addresses.
Methodology: Six specialist databases were used to retrieve data on the history of the academic literature that discusses the work of documentation departments in television companies, both in terms of the volume of articles published and the subjects addressed. The researchers also examined the main publishers of articles in this field and the authors of these articles.
Results: The researchers were unable to establish a link between the production of academic texts on the work of documentation departments in television companies and current developments in the field, and it was found that scant attention is given to subjects of professional importance, such as technical regulations. Finally, most of the articles published in this period were written by a single author and more than half the authors were men.
