Aims: This article identifies models and methodologies for developing digital preservation policies, especially in describing an organization's intent, commitment and responsibility in writing the policy.
Methods: Methods for developing digital preservation policies and models with descriptive sections for drafting digital preservation policies are characterized. Next, functional commonalities in methodologies for developing digital preservation policies are identified and specified. Finally, a comparative table of models with descriptive sections is analyzed to consider the key elements for drafting a digital preservation policy.
Results: The descriptive models and methods for developing digital preservation policies give priority to the drafting of declarative sections that describe the importance of digital preservation in terms of its scope and functional objectives, the materials it covers, the people responsible and authorities that support the actions. The aim is to consolidate a formal statement of intent, commitment and responsibility as a key introductory section in the digital preservation policy.
