Objectives: This paper examines how users read concept maps and seeks to identify those parts of concept maps that users focus on most and the order in which maps are reviewed.

Methodology: The study used eye-tracking methodology.

Results: It was observed that when reading concept maps users paid most attention to second horizontal entry levels and to the central area of the map. There was no significant difference of degree in the attention they paid to nodes or connecting sentences, and users initially read down the map, from one side to the other, from the root concept positioned at the top and in the middle of the map to the concept positioned at the bottom right-hand corner.

Figura 1. Servicios 2.0 incluidos en las tecnologías de nivel 2

Objectives: This paper examines the provision of Web 2.0 services and the consequent exclusion of Web 1.0 services in different libraries in the Basque network of public online libraries (Euskadiko Irakurketa Publikoko Sarea) in the province of Biscay.

Methodology: The researchers conducted case studies of different libraries in the network using a series of parameters and indicators to determine the provision of Web 2.0 and Web 1.0 services. Some of the parameters that were used are customary in the field while others were tailored to the requirements of the study. The data were retrieved during the period between September 2012 and February 2013.

Results: A disparity was observed between the libraries where some libraries consistently offered just Web 1.0 services while others offered a wide range of Web 2.0 services, which were fully maintained and updated. The main findings of this study were presented in the formulation of a Web 2.0 drop rate, an indicator that quantifies the effect of the trend for Web 2.0 services.

This paper assesses the quality of official tourist destination websites offered by Spain’s regional tourism boards.

Methodology: The system of assessment was designed by the research group Comunicación online de los destinos turísticos (Online Communication for Destination Brands, CODETUR) in the form of a template combining 12 parameters and 127 indicators to calculate a web quality index for each website and identify its strengths and weaknesses.

Results: The quality of tourist destination websites offered by Spain’s regional tourism boards was observed to be slightly above average, with an overall web quality index of 0.51 in which Galicia scored the highest (0.66) and Extremadura scored the lowest (0.33). Taken together, the Spanish websites scored highest in those areas the researchers had defined as technical, (0.75 for the parameter Usability and accessibility, 0.73 for Positioning and 0.69 for Web architecture) and scored lowest in those areas defined as relational (0.27 for Mobile communications and 0.28 for Interactivity) or as persuasive (0.29 for Commercialization).

Objective: This paper examines the training that lecturers in health sciences at the University of Valencia consider they need to use OpenCourseWare in their classes. The paper also examines the marketing and information strategies these lecturers believe their institution should use to encourage the increased use of OpenCourseWare and the deposit of materials.

Methodology: The research was qualitative and the researchers conducted semi-structured interviews with members of the teaching staff of the University.

Results: It was observed that lecturers’ perceived training needs for using OpenCourseWare vary according to such factors as personal teaching experience, level of ICT skills, and the organization of teaching materials. Specifically, lecturers thought they needed training in OCW package itself, in ICT at different levels, in the principles of open access and, in the case of less experienced members of staff, in teaching with technology. The marketing strategies they considered should be implemented were: institutional promotion, diffusion and individualization of OpenCourseWare and the provision of information on intellectual copyright, reward systems, motivation and visibility.
