La biblioteca digital de l’Instituto Cervantes: model de selecció per al llibre electrònic i gestió de la col·lecció

La Red de Bibliotecas de l’Instituto Cervantes va engegar el 2012 un nou servei de préstec i de descàrrega de llibres electrònics per a tots els socis. La novetat principal és el sistema de selecció de la col·lecció: títol a títol, a partir de fonts diferents i per compra a perpetuïtat o ingrés per donació dels continguts. Aquest model de gestió es duu a terme tant per a les obres lliures de drets que s’incorporen, com per a les novetats bibliogràfiques i per a les obres amb copyright. Es tracta de donar un servei a partir d’una biblioteca digital pròpia i especialitzada gestionada directament a través d’editors i distribuïdors d’Espanya i d’altres països. Una dificultat derivada d’aquest sistema de selecció és que l’oferta de novetats bibliogràfiques disponibles en format electrònic per a biblioteques és reduïda. Amb la finalitat d’incentivar aquesta oferta i abaratir costos, l’Instituto Cervantes proposa avantatges als editors (convertir les biblioteques de la Red en mitjans per difondre i promoure el llibre electrònic i com a generadores de negoci). Una altra iniciativa orientada a augmentar la disponibilitat de llibres electrònics en el catàleg i a oferir serveis més sostenibles és posar en marxa projectes conjunts en el context de l’edició institucional, que combinin la cooperació i la innovació i proporcionin beneficis a tots els participants. — In 2012 the Library Network of the Instituto Cervantes launched a new e-book loan and download service for all its members. The main innovation is the system for selecting the collection: a title-by-title scheme, drawing on different sources and involving purchase for perpetuity or the donation of the content. This management model operates equally for books that are free of copyright as for new materials and works under copyright. The aim is to provide the services of a specialized digital library whose management is conducted directly through publishers and distributors in Spain and other countries. One difficulty arising from this selection system is that the supply of new books available in electronic format for libraries remains small. To encourage this supply and to reduce costs, the Instituto Cervantes offers advantages to publishers (including, converting the libraries in the network in media for the dissemination and promotion of the e-book and as generators of business). A further initiative aimed at increasing availability of e-books in the catalogue and offering a more sustainable service is that of implementing joint projects for institutional publications, combining cooperation and innovation, and providing benefits for all participants.

Implantació de l’e-book a les biblioteques d’investigació: estudi de cas de la Biqfr

Objectiu: Analitzar la implantació de la col·lecció dels llibres electrònics cientificotècnics de la Biqfr (Biblioteca Instituto de Química-Física Rocasolano) del CSIC i de les estratègies de difusió, implementació, creació i gestió de la col·lecció adoptades per a la formació durant el període 2007-2009.

Metodologia: Es va entrevistar en profunditat la directora de la biblioteca d’investigació i es va fer un treball de camp amb els altres bibliotecaris de la Biqfr. A través d’aquests dos procediments es va obtenir informació i es van analitzar diferents aspectes relacionats amb l’e-book des d’una perspectiva diacrònica.

Resultats: La implementació del llibre electrònic en aquesta biblioteca va ser primerenca —en comparació amb d’altres— i va comportar reptes nous als bibliotecaris, sobretot per fer-ne visible l’ús i potenciar-lo entre els usuaris. Van establir estratègies diverses de creació de la col·lecció i de difusió, que van permetre adquirir experiència en la gestió i detectar les singularitats que presenta aquest recurs electrònic enfront d’altres com les revistes i les bases de dades. — Objective: to analyse the introduction of the scientific and technical e-book collection of the Rocasolano Chemistry-Physics Library (Biqfr) of CSIC and the strategies adopted for the dissemination, creation, implementation, and management of the collection between 2007 and 2009.

Methodology: an in-depth interview was conducted with the director of the research library, and field work was undertaken with the other Biqfr librarians. The information obtained from these two sources was used to analyse aspects of the introduction of e-books from a diachronic perspective.

Results: the library was one of the first to introduce e-books, which represented certain challenges for the librarians, especially as regards making the resources visible and promoting their use among researchers. The librarians adopted various strategies to create and disseminate the collection, enabling them to gain experience in their management and to identify the unique characteristics of this resource in comparison with traditional journals and databases.

Estudi sobre l’ús dels llibres electrònics a les biblioteques universitàries de Castella i Lleó

Objectiu: L’objectiu de l’estudi és fer un diagnòstic del llibre electrònic a les biblioteques universitàries de Castella i Lleó; és a dir, analitzar-ne el grau d’incorporació a les col·leccions i el nivell de penetració, amb la finalitat d’articular-ne sistemes de difusió i ús i planificar estratègies de futur.

Metodologia: S’han dut a terme diverses enquestes per compilar la informació des de la triple perspectiva dels responsables dels serveis d’adquisicions, dels bibliotecaris i dels usuaris de llibres electrònics a les biblioteques universitàries.

Resultats: Les dades obtingudes mostren com la tendència seguida en les biblioteques universitàries de Castella i Lleó són similars a les d’altres països amb més tradició en l’ús dels llibres electrònics. — Objective: The aim of the study is to offer a diagnosis of the use of e-books in the university libraries of Castilla y León, i.e. to analyse the degree of incorporation of e-books in their collections and their level of penetration, in order to develop systems of dissemination and use and to plan future strategies.

Methodology: various surveys were conducted in order to compile information from a three-way perspective: that of those responsible for acquisition services, that of the librarians and that of the users of e-books in the university libraries.

Results: The information obtained shows how the procedures followed by the university libraries of Castilla y León are similar to those in other countries with greater experience in the use of e-books.

La gestió dels llibres electrònics a la Biblioteca virtual de la UOC

El text que es presenta mostra com es du a terme la gestió dels llibres electrònics a la Biblioteca virtual (d’ara endavant BV) de la Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (d’ara endavant UOC). La BV posa un èmfasi especial en l’adquisició de llibres digitals per millorar l’accés als usuaris als recursos i col·leccions d’una universitat que es caracteritza per la virtualitat. El document presenta, en primer lloc, l’entorn en què s’adquireixen i s’utilitzen els llibres electrònics: s’expliquen els diferents escenaris d’adquisició en els quals es pot trobar la biblioteca i es defineixen els circuits interns que en permeten la gestió i els processos tècnics dels documents. A continuació es mostren les diferents opcions d’accés i consulta de llibres electrònics que actualment s’ofereixen des de la biblioteca i s’expliquen les anàlisis d’usos d’aquests documents. Finalment es presenten les conclusions a les quals arriba la BV sobre el nou context de llibres electrònics. — This article shows how e-books are managed in the Virtual Library (VL) at the Open University of Catalonia (UOC). The VL places special emphasis on the acquisition of digital books to improve user access to resources and collections in a virtual university. The article first examines the environment in which e-books are acquired and used, explaining the various stages of acquisition that the library might be involved in and defining the internal circuits that facilitate the management and technical processes of these virtual documents. This is followed by a presentation of the range of options made available by the library to users wishing to access and consult the e-books and an explanation of the analysis of uses to which these documents are put. The article finishes by examining the conclusions drawn by the VL about the new context of e-books.

Els llibres electrònics en les col·leccions de les biblioteques públiques

Objectius: la incorporació dels llibres electrònics a les biblioteques suposa una sèrie de canvis en els processos de gestió de les col·leccions. En l’article s’aborden tots els aspectes afectats pels nous factors que s’introdueixen amb la gestió dels llibres electrònics.

Metodologia: s’analitzen els canvis que es produeixen en els criteris de selecció i especialment en els nous condicionants que intervenen en el procés d’adquisició, considerant els models de negoci principals que s’estan aplicant. Pel que fa a l’avaluació, s’estableixen les dades estadístiques principals que s’han de tenir en compte per valorar aquests recursos. També s’analitzen breument les plataformes de préstec existents fins avui a Espanya (la Libranda, l’OdiloTK i el XeBook).

Resultats: s’exposen, a manera de reflexió, una sèrie de conclusions en què es reflecteixen algunes qüestions clau que les biblioteques haurien d’assumir a l’hora de plantejar-se les actuacions i negociacions sobre el préstec de llibres electrònics. — Objectives: incorporating e-books into public libraries requires a series of changes in the management processes of the libraries’ collections. This paper addresses those aspects affected by the new factors arising with the management of e-books.

Methodology: an analysis is undertaken of the changes in the selection criteria and, in particular, of the new determinants affecting the acquisition process, by examining the main business models that have been adopted. The most relevant statistical data are identified for evaluating these resources. A brief analysis is also provided of the lending platforms that have been used in Spain to date (Libranda, OdiloTK and Xe-book).

Results: a series of conclusions are drawn, by way of reflection, that capture some of the key questions that libraries need to address when undertaking actions and entering into negotiations for the incorporation of e-book lending systems.
